Here are some video excerpts posted by Ed Week from the debate at Teachers College Columbia earlier this week with Lisa Graham Keegan representing John McCain and Linda Darling Hammond representing Barak Obama. The 90 minute discussion focused on teacher quality and compensation which is a good indication of where the major focus might be in the next attempt at reauthorization. You can get a pretty good sense of where the differences in approach would be by viewing these clips. They also were asked to speculate about choices for the next Secretary of Education (the presumption being that either would be a candidate should their guy prevail).
Earlier this summer the New America Foundation sponsored a similar event with Lisa Graham Keegan and John Schnur representing Obama. Schnur was an education adviser to the Clinton administration and currently heads up New Leaders for New Schools, an organization which recruits and trains administrators for urban schools. Richard Colvin, Director of the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media at Columbia University, moderated the discussion.

Interesting videos. Any chance our presidential candidates have watched them. Too bad…
